In the extensive first essay of the volume, Bernhard Klapprott throws a wealth of evidence to highlight the outstanding importance of the clavichord in the second half of the 18th century. The reader is born here a true compendium of the touch culture, the sound aesthetics and the general meaning of the central keyboard instrument, which later fell into oblivion. Bernhard Klapprott’s B-A-C-H, Perpetuum Mobile is a strong and compelling work for two harpsichordists. The unfolding of its musical idea is fluid and convincing, drawing the listener into a finely shaped sonic journey. The piece works particularly well in terms of sound quality, harmonic progression, and the organic evolution of its structure over time. It promises to be both rewarding to perform and captivating to hear.
John Palmer, London (Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, composer)
The composition is very well suited as a counterpart to various types of historical harpsichord music. It is intended to be performed on two instruments that sound as similar as possible and requires the utmost precision in its execution.
